Navalprogetti, as project coordinator, is pleased to announce significant progress in the sHYpS (Sustainable Hydrogen Powered Shipping) project, marking the beginning of the third and final reporting period. Activities are now strongly focused on Work Package 6 (WP6) – LH2 Storage Ship Integration, Testing and Demonstrator, where Navalprogetti acts as lead beneficiary.
This phase represents a crucial step toward validating innovative liquid hydrogen (LH2) storage solutions for maritime applications, supporting the transition to zero-emission shipping.
Successful Completion of a Key Milestone for On-Land Testing
As part of the WP6 activities, Navalprogetti is proud to confirm the successful completion of the second key milestone in preparation for the on-land testing phase of the sHYpS hydrogen system.
The Tank Connection Space has been successfully delivered and installed on its dedicated foundation at the Staranzano test site, ensuring readiness for the next stages of system validation.
This achievement is essential for enabling the integration and testing of the LH2 storage system, representing a major step forward in the development of safe and efficient hydrogen technologies for the maritime sector.

Focus on Task 6.4: On-Land Testing of LH2 Storage Systems
During this final reporting period, particular attention is dedicated to Task 6.4 – On-land testing, managed by Cenergy.
This phase is critical to:
- Validate the performance and safety of the liquid hydrogen storage system
- Assess system integration under real operational conditions
- Support the development of scalable hydrogen solutions for shipping decarbonization
The on-land testing activities will provide essential data to demonstrate the feasibility and reliability of LH2 technologies, accelerating their adoption in the maritime industry.
Driving Innovation in Hydrogen-Powered Shipping
Through its leadership in WP6, Navalprogetti continues to play a key role in advancing LH2 storage, ship integration, and testing technologies, contributing to the global effort toward decarbonizing the maritime sector.
The sHYpS project represents a significant step forward in enabling the adoption of hydrogen as a clean energy carrier for next-generation vessels, reinforcing Navalprogetti’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.
