Enhancing Safety and Expertise in the Use of Alternative Marine Fuels
From July 29th to 31st, a team of Navalprogetti’s technical staff took part in the “Service on Ships using Fuels Covered within the IGF Code” training course, hosted in Glasgow and organized by Stream Marine Training, a recognized leader in maritime safety education.
This specialized training is designed to meet the requirements of the International Code of Safety for Ships using Gases or other Low Flash-point Fuels (IGF Code) and plays a crucial role in preparing seafarers and technical personnel for the safe handling of alternative fuels.
Key Learning Areas Covered During the Training
Throughout the three-day course, participants gained both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the following areas:
- ✅ Safe operation of ships using fuels regulated by the IGF Code
- ✅ Hazard awareness and prevention related to low flash point and potentially hazardous fuels
- ✅ Implementation of occupational health and safety precautions
- ✅ Emergency response procedures
- ✅ Strategies for environmental protection and prevention of fuel-related pollution
This hands-on training ensures compliance with international safety standards while promoting a proactive safety culture onboard vessels.

Why IGF Code Training Matters for the Maritime Industry
With the increasing adoption of alternative fuels such as LNG, methanol, and hydrogen to meet environmental targets and IMO regulations, crew competence in handling these fuels has never been more critical. The IGF Code sets out mandatory safety requirements, and proper training is essential to mitigate operational risks.
By investing in this type of education, Navalprogetti reinforces its commitment to safety, sustainability, and technical excellence across all maritime operations.
A Continuous Path Toward Innovation and Compliance
At Navalprogetti, we believe that continuous learning is key to staying aligned with a fast-evolving maritime industry. Participating in international training programs like this one helps our team:
- Stay updated with current regulatory frameworks
- Increase operational safety standards
- Support the industry’s transition toward greener fuels
This initiative is part of our broader strategy to enhance staff readiness, maintain technical leadership, and deliver innovative and sustainable maritime engineering solutions.
